Stewardship

Held in trust for the people who carried it.

The contraceptive use of this plant originates with the Nimboran people of Indonesian Papua. How we hold that responsibility matters as much as the science.

Sovereign has benefit-sharing built into the company's structure to support the originating community and ecosystems, with support for cultural and linguistic preservation.

The Nimboran live under real pressure. Parts of West Papua face ongoing armed conflict and large-scale displacement, and traditional knowledge that has survived for generations is threatened not only by cultural change but by violence. Partnership, revenue sharing, and international visibility can bring these communities much-needed support, and help ease the economic and political factors driving the conflict.

Our approach is partnership, not extraction: working directly with knowledge-holders, honouring traditional preparation and protocol, and structuring agreements that benefit everybody. Sovereign carries the work forward independently while welcoming collaboration with the researchers and communities who came before.
