About Sovereign

Traditional knowledge, grounded in modern science.

Sovereign Life Sciences is a pre-seed company developing plant-based reproductive medicine — beginning with a non-hormonal, reversible contraceptive for men, and building toward a broader practice of regenerative medicine rooted in plants and the people who understand them.

Mission

Develop the world's first clinically validated plant-based male contraceptive — honouring indigenous knowledge and whole-plant integrity — while advancing sexual and relational sovereignty and a better life for all people.

Success means direct, clinically-backed contraceptive efficacy claims and mainstream adoption — bringing this to millions of men through clinical validation, sound IP, and an ethical partnership model. The longer arc builds on reproductive sovereignty as a foundation for a new paradigm of regenerative medicine: one that bridges ancient wisdom with modern science and restores humanity's relationship with the natural world as a source of wellness.

The team

The people behind the work.

Chris Shewchuk
Chris Shewchuk
Founder & CEO

Chris founded Sovereign on a belief that good medicine starts with good relationships. Through his personal and professional journey, including building Eros & Soul, an intimacy and relational development practice, he came to see the challenges many women face with modern birth control and how few choices men have. When the Indonesian research on this plant stalled, he saw an opportunity, and felt a responsibility, to carry it forward. He built Sovereign’s foundation and corporate structure with the small-town prairie tenacity he grew up with, and works alongside a small, dedicated team of advisors who each bring something crucial to the work.

Strategy & Operations Advisor

Alejandro brings the business-building side to Sovereign: planning, capital discipline and the operating model that carries a funded study through to a first product. An alumnus of McKinsey & Company, Partners in Performance (part of Accenture) and KPMG, he has led strategy and performance work across mining, manufacturing, financial services, telecom and e-commerce in 15 countries, co-founded a search fund where he built investment cases for co-investors, and ran strategic planning for Argentina's 2018 G20 presidency. He holds an MBA (magna cum laude) from IAE Business School, works in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and advises Sovereign on strategy, operations and the road to investors.
