Purpose
Sovereign Life Sciences develops plant-based health products through methods that respect people, plants and place. Our first programme is a non-hormonal, reversible male contraceptive derived from Justicia gendarussa. The plant’s contraceptive use is part of the traditional knowledge of the Nimboran people of Papua.
We commit to:
- Ethical, regenerative product development. Developing health and wellness products through methods that respect all life, promote wellbeing, and favour natural, whole-plant approaches wherever sound.
- Scientific rigour informed by traditional knowledge. Grounding our research in rigorous science while honouring the traditional knowledge systems, and the relationships between people, plants and place, from which our work originates.
- Equitable partnership with source communities. Working with knowledge-keepers and source communities through fair, transparent benefit-sharing, and supporting the cultural and linguistic vitality of the communities we work with.
- Equitable global access. Making the benefits of our research available at prices people can afford across all economic circumstances, including in the developing world.
- Cooperative enterprise. Operating through a cooperative rather than extractive model, seeking outcomes that benefit shareholders, communities, ecosystems and the planet.
- Relational wealth. Fostering healthy, supportive relationships of every kind, and advancing education that helps people build them.
These commitments are written into our articles and were approved by our board on June 12, 2026. We report on them each year.
